Top remaining Florida targets
By Derek Tyson
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- There is less than a month remaining until national signing day and Florida's 2013 recruiting class is almost completely full. The Gators stand at 27 commitments, eight of whom have already enrolled at UF. With only a few spots remaining, here's a look at some of the top remaining recruits on Florida's board.
The Gators find themselves in good position for Avon, Ind., defensive end Elijah Daniel.
DE Elijah Daniel (Avon, Ind./Avon) -- The 6-foot-3, 249-pound defensive end was impressive during the Under Armour week. Daniel has taken visits to Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Marshall and will visit Arizona State this weekend and Florida on Feb. 1. The Gators and Ole Miss appear to be the frontrunners for Daniel.
DT Montravius Adams (Vienna, Ga./Dooly Co.) -- Adams visited Florida right after the Under Armour All-America game. By all indications he really enjoyed his visit to Florida. Adams visited Clemson this past weekend and will visit Alabama on Jan. 18, followed by Georgia on Jan. 25, before making his decision. There is still a long way to go with Adams, but the Gators are certainly right in the mix.
DB Jalen Ramsey (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) -- The USC cornerback commit continues to have interest in the Gators. He is friends with Florida safety commit Nick Washington and new early enrollee Demarcus Robinson. Ramsey visited Florida State this past weekend and will visit USC on Jan. 18. Like Adams, the Gators are very much in the mix for Ramsey and his recruitment might come down to the wire.
WR James Clark (New Smyrna Beach, Fla./New Smyrna Beach) -- The Gators just recently offered the athletic playmaker. Clark visited Nebraska this weekend and still has visits to Clemson next weekend and Florida the weekend after. The Gators have five wide receiver commits already, but Clark is athletic enough to see the field early. Clemson and Florida seem to be at the top of his list. With Florida landing Demarcus Robinson, the need for Clark is not as pressing as it once was.
DT Jarran Reed (Goldsboro, N.C./East Mississippi Community College) -- Reed, an Ole Miss verbal commitment, visited Florida this past weekend. He still has remaining trips to North Carolina, Kentucky and Ole Miss, but the Gators are in good position to land the talented lineman. Reed is friends with two former EMCC players, Damien Jacobs and Darious Cummings, who are now at Florida.
RB Alex Collins (Plantation, Fla./South Plantation) -- The ESPN 150 back has already visited Florida State, Florida and Wisconsin and has remaining trips set up for Miami (Fla) and Arkansas. Florida has commitments from two ESPN 300 running backs Kelvin Taylor and Adam Lane. There isn't a pressing need for a running back, but Collins has shot up the rankings and is a guy that Florida might not be able to pass up on if he wanted to come. The Miami visit could go a long way but Florida is right in the picture for the talented back.
