Thompson still hearing from other schools

By Derek Tyson

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Despite having been committed to Florida since July, three-star Florida wide receiver commit Chris Thompson (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) is still receiving interest from other programs.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound athlete said after Gainesville's disappointing loss to Miami Central in the FHSAA class 6A state championship game on Saturday that Marshall and Florida Atlantic continue to recruit him despite his pledge to the Gators.

"I still talk to a couple of them -- like Marshall and FAU," Thompson said. "But I'm still solid to Florida."

In addition to Thompson, the Gators have commitments from three other wide receivers Ahmad Fulwood (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny), Alvin Bailey (Seffner, Fla./Armwood) and Marqui Hawkins (Columbus, Ga./Carver).

Florida also received a commitment from ESPN 300 wide receiver Demarcus Robinson (Fort Valley, Ga./Peach County) last week, but on Monday Robinson switched his commitment back to Clemson. Thompson said it doesn't matter how many receivers Florida brings in, he knows he will have to compete when he gets on campus.

"I just feel that when we get there, we are all going to have to compete," Thompson said. "I just feel like I'll do whatever's best for the team. I'll get there and ball out."

Thompson pulled in one reception for 40 yards in the loss to Central.
