LB Jarrad Davis switches to Florida

By Derek Tyson

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida continued its recruiting hot streak on Saturday, as three-star outside linebacker Jarrad Davis (Kingsland, Ga/Camden Co.) switched his verbal commitment from Auburn to Florida. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound athlete had been committed to Auburn for 10 months prior to the switch.

Davis informed Camden County head coach Jeff Herron this afternoon of his decision to switch to Florida.

"Coach [Will] Muschamp called me last night and told me that they had offered him," Herron said. "It had been up in the air whether they were going to or not. They had another kid that they had offered and had committed that they were waiting on some grades with or something. So they thought they were going to offer but it didn't officially happen until last night.

"Coach Muschamp told him they were going to offer him last night and to enjoy his weekend and think about it. Jarrad told me today that he told Coach Muschamp that yes he would be going there."

As a senior Davis accounted for 114 tackles, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Herron said he thinks Davis will fit nicely in to Florida's defensive system.

"He's a coach's dream," Herron said. "He has all the intangibles. Great character, great work ethic, very intelligent. He has great physical ability too. He had a great senior year. Even though he was committed to Auburn, he didn't let that affect him. He had a better year this year than he did last year. Then when everything went down with Auburn, he had a ton more people come back in on him and offer him this year ... based on his performance this year, including Florida.

"I think it will be a great fit for him. I was impressed when I saw Florida last year at their Friday Night Lights camp. Jarrad's the type of kid that will fit in great in that system."

Davis joins Daniel McMillian (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast), James Hearns (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln) and Matt Rolin (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) as Florida linebacker commits.

The Gators now stand at 26 verbal commitments, including 15 in the ESPN 300 and 10 in the ESPN 150. Davis is the fifth prospect to commit to Florida in the last six days.
