Florida weekend visitor preview

By Derek Tyson

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida is hosting its annual football banquet this weekend and as usual it will use this time to bring in several recruits. With Florida having a majority of its class already filled, most of the visitors will be committed players or underclassmen.

Quinton Powell
Florida hopes to reaffirm the commitment of linebacker Quinton Powell on his official visit to the school this weekend.
Linebacker commits Quinton Powell (Daytona Beach, Fla./Mainland) and Daniel McMillian (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast) have been looking around. Powell wants to take visits to USC and Miami (Fla), while McMillian has visited Ohio State recently. Both players will be officially visiting Florida this weekend. Florida will try and reaffirm McMillian's and Powell's commitments.

Powell said he's excited to be around the other Florida commits.

"I'm looking forward to being around the other guys," Powell said. "Just interacting with the coaches and other commits is always fun."

In addition to McMillian and Powell, other committed players expected to officially visit are running backs Kelvin Taylor (Belle Glades, Fla./Glades Day) and Adam Lane (Winter Haven, Fla./Winter Haven), defensive backs Nick Washington (Jacksonville, Fla./Trinity Christian), Vernon Hargreaves III (Tampa, Fla./Wharton) and Keanu Neal (Bushnell, Fla./South Sumter), defensive linemen Joey Ivie (Dade City, Fla./Pasco), Caleb Brantley (Crescent City, Fla./Crescent City), Antonio Riles (Lawrenceville, Ga./Archer) and Jordan Sherit (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough), and wide receivers Ahmad Fulwood (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) and Marqui Hawkins (Columbus, Ga./Carver).

ESPN Watch List quarterback Will Grier (Davidson, N.C./Davidson Day), who passed for more than 800 yards and 10 touchdowns in a game this season, will be making another trip to Gainesville. Grier has been to Florida at least three times since the summer and said he wants to get some questions answered while he's in Gainesville.

"I'm spending two days there," Grier said. "So I'm looking forward to watching practice on Friday and just spending a lot of time in Gainesville. I'm going to try and go very in-depth about the school and ask as many questions as possible."

Watch List defensive back Duke Dawson (Cross City, Fla./Dixie Co.) will also be making another trip to Gainesville. Dawson has visited the Gators several times since he earned a Florida offer over the summer. Dawson will likely be making a decision in the near future between Florida and Florida State.

***Note: USC defensive end commit Jason Hatcher (Louisville, KY./Trinity), at one point was scheduled to take an official visit, but now it is unclear if he will actually make the trip.***
