Brown enjoys FSU-UF rivalry

By Corey Dowlar

Keyon Brown (Wauchula, Fla./Hardee County) was one of many elite junior prospects on hand for the Florida-Florida State matchup last weekend. Neither squad has offered, but both continue to show great interest.

Seeing the visitors come away with the win did impress him, though.

"I thought it was a pretty good game," he said. "I thought Florida's defensive line was great."

Regardless of the game, the environment inside Doak Campbell Stadium was one of the best parts of the experience. With fans of both teams well represented, the ESPN Watch List member said it was one of the best trips he'd made all season long.

"It was really cool. Seeing the fans opposite from each other all pumped up," Brown said. "It was a great atmosphere.

"Yeah, it was one of the best experiences I've been to."

As much as people might think that rivalry wins and losses shape and mold recruiting classes, it is increasingly obvious that it isn't necessarily the case. Certainly, a win in front of top-rated recruits doesn't hurt.

But a loss isn't devastating, either.

For recruits like Brown, it less about results in a vacuum, and more about how he fits into a team.

"I was just taking it all in," he said. "I'm not really thinking about that too much right now. One loss or one win doesn't really lead me to one team or another. I was just taking it in."

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound defensive end has offers from Louisiana-Lafayette, Miami, Pittsburgh and UCF. Besides Florida and Florida State, South Carolina is also said to be very interested.
