Florida recruiting: The Hot Five

By Derek Tyson

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- There are three months left until national signing day and the Gators have a majority of their 2013 recruiting class filled. With 20 verbal commitments, Florida has roughly five remaining empty slots to fill. Here's a closer look at how they could potentially be filled.

1. S Marcell Harris (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) -- The ESPN 150 safety has a top four of Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma and Texas. The Gators and Longhorns appear to be the top two teams he is considering. Harris announced last week he would make his college decision Nov. 16. Florida looks to be in a good position to land the Under Armour All-American. Florida will likely lose Matt Elam to the NFL and Harris would have a chance to compete for early playing time.

2. OT Laremy Tunsil (Lake City, Fla./Columbia) -- Florida might be a long shot for the No. 3-ranked player in the country, but he is well worth the effort. Tunsil continues to have Georgia and Alabama as his top two schools, but he continues to show interest in the Gators. He has visited Gainesville twice this season and Florida will have depth issues at tackle next year. Tunsil will wait until signing day to make his decision, and as long as he is showing some interest in Florida, the Gators will continue to pursue the talented tackle prospect.

3. DT Montravius Adams (Vienna, Ga./Dooly County) or DT Greg Gilmore (Hope Mills, N.C./South View) -- With Florida freshman defensive tackle JaFar Mann announcing he would transfer on Monday, depth at defensive line now becomes a priority. The Gators have a commimtment from Caleb Brantley and would like to add another top defensive tackle in this class. The Gators will have their work cut out for them however. Adams visited Georgia this past weeend and by all accounts the visit went very well. Gilmore, who has LSU, Florida and Oklahoma on top, visited Baton Rouge this weekend and will likely announce his decision on Thursday.

4. OT Trenton Brown (Albany, Ga./Georgia Military) -- FSU just recently offered the massive 6-foot-8, 340-pound tackle prospect. After his decommitment from Georgia, the Gators continue to be Brown's leader. Brown will visit Oklahoma on Nov. 23 and could make a decision after that. Despite Florida's desire to land Tunsil, Brown is still a top priority.

5. DB Jalen Ramsey (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy -- USC) -- The Gators would like to add one more defensive back and with Ramsey's 6-0, 190-pound frame, he's just the type of defensive back that Florida coach Will Muschamp likes. Though he remains committed to USC, the Gators are very much in the picture.
