Depending on how you look at it, Christmas either came late or really early for Florida and Texas A&M over the weekend.

During Saturday's junior day for 2013 prospects, the Gators owned the day, gaining six verbal commitments, with five being named to the ESPNU 150 Watch List.

Texas A&M's good fortune started on Saturday, as well, and carried over into Monday, as the Aggies' coaching staff picked up seven verbals over the extended weekend.

After missing on a few offensive players at positions of need in his 2012 class, Florida coach Will Muschamp reeled in a pretty big get when five-star running back Kelvin Taylor (Belle Glades, Fla./Glades Day), the son of former Gators star running back Fred Taylor, was the first to commit Saturday. Kelvin Taylor is now the second running back in Florida's 2013 class, but he comes in with more attention than just about any other commit Florida has had since Muschamp took over.

Kelvin Taylor will enter his senior year as the all-time leading rusher in the state of Florida, after surpassing Emmitt Smith in 2011 with 9,698 yards.

Taylor told Derek Tyson of ESPN.com's GatorNation that even though his father played at Florida in the mid-90s, he took a hard look at other schools, including Alabama. Kelvin Taylor said his decision came down to Florida and Alabama, but he went with the staff he was more comfortable with.

"It was really close between Alabama and Florida," Kelvin Taylor said. "The more I kept going up there to visit Bama and UF, I just felt more at home at UF with the coaching staff. They are great guys, and I felt like I was part of the family. It was the same at Bama. I really liked it there, but the UF coaching staff is a really great group of guys, and UF has a great academic program also."

Florida also added wide receiver Rodney Adams (St. Petersburg, Fla./Lakewood) to the offensive side, but really made a few splashes on defense with four ESPNU 150 Watch List members in safeties Nick Washington (Jacksonville, Fla./Trinity Christian Academy) and Keanu Neal (Bushnell, Fla./South Sumter), and linebackers Quinton Powell (Daytona Beach, Fla./Mainland) and Dillion Lawson (Crestview, Fla.).

Obviously, these are all nonbinding pledges, but after taking some hits at the end of the 2012 recruiting season, Florida helped make up for those with a fast start to the 2013 class. Florida now has 10 commitments, with nine being ESPNU 150 members.

As for Texas A&M, coach Kevin Sumlin and his staff received verbals from four players Saturday, including ESPNU 150 Watch List offensive tackle Ishmael Wilson (Dallas/Bishop Dunne).

Wilson was expected to visit Texas for the Longhorns' junior day on Feb. 25, but told Max Olson of ESPN.com's HornsNation that he has canceled those plans after pledging to Texas A&M.

The Aggies also snagged running back Johnny Jefferson (Killeen, Texas/Shoemaker), who has been timed at 4.36 seconds in the 40-yard dash, and decided on Texas A&M after visiting the Aggies' junior day instead of Oklahoma State's.

“It was a gut feeling,” Jefferson told ESPN recruiting analyst Damon Sayles. “A&M had always been in my top two, and going there [Saturday] just sealed it for me. It was great, I loved it.”

Texas A&M finished the weekend with commitments from offensive tackle Joas Aguilar (N. Richland Hills, Texas/Birdville), safeties Victor Davis (Rosenberg, Texas/Terry) and Jonathan Wiggins (Houston/Alief Taylor), and running back James White (Pearland, Texas/Glenda Dawson).

Texas A&M then added ESPNU 150 Watch List offensive tackle J.J. Gustafson (Dallas/Jesuit) on Monday. The 6-foot-5, 260-pounder received interest from a number of schools, including Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Sumlin, who is certainly picking up on the importance of line play in this league, now has verbals from six linemen.

The Aggies have 13 commits, including eight ESPNU 150 Watch List members.
