GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Jackson (Miss.) Jackson Prep quarterback Ryan Buchanan has seen his stock continue to climb. The 6-foot-3, 203-pound prospect has started to hear from the Florida Gators recently.
Buchanan says three Florida coaches have been in contact.
"I've talked to coach [Derek] Lewis," Buchanan said. "He is the recruiting coordinator for my area, and I got some good feedback from him. Coach Aubrey Hill is coming by my school (today) and then coach [Brent] Pease is coming by my school next week sometime to watch me throw. I talked to Coach Pease for a while. He wants me to come down and see Florida when I can, so I'll probably get down there as soon as possible."
Buchanan, who holds offers from Auburn, Arkansas, Mississippi Stae, Ole Miss, Syracuse, Southern Mississippi and Arkansas State, said there is mutual interest with the Gators.
"It's definitely up there," Buchanan said. "I always thought Florida was a really unique school. It's definitely one of the top places in the country I want to see in person, no doubt. I just have to find a weekend I can get down there and see it. I think it will be awesome."
Though Florida and Tennessee have expressed interest in the signal-caller, neither school has extended a scholarship offer. Buchanan said that could change in the near future.
"I don't have any leaders right now. I'm still open," he said. "I'll have an offer from Tennessee when I get up there and take a visit, so I just want to keep things open right now."
For Buchanan, he says he would like to make a final decision before his senior season begins: "Sometime this summer before my season starts is when I'm looking at committing and just staying with that school and making sure it's the final school and not decommitting from anywhere."
