Gators grab Watch List wide receiver

8/5/2012

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators picked up a commitment from ESPNU 150 Watch List wide receiver Ahmad Fulwood shortly after their annual spring game on Saturday.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound athlete, who originally wanted to leave the state to play college football, decided Florida was the best fit for him.

"It just felt like home," Fulwood said. "It's an hour and a half away, but it's a home away from home. It's a great place to be at. We are trying to start a new dynasty at UF and we are doing it with kids like Nick [Washington] and Daniel [McMillian] and Q [Quinton Powell], kids like Tre' [Bell]. We are starting something new here."

Fulwood's mom, Terri, originally wanted her son to go out of state to play, but Fulwood said his mother is now OK with his decision to attend Florida.

"Me and my mom have been discussing the last few weeks about it," he said. "She had some stipulations at first and had some questions about it, but me and coach [Will] Muschamp just talked to her about it and she is even more happy about it than I am."

Fulwood, who chose Florida over offers from USC, Clemson, Alabama and Georgia, said the Florida coaches were excited to hear the news of his commitment.

"They all went crazy," Fulwood said. "They were saying welcome to the Gator family and congratulations. It felt great."

Fulwood joins Rodney Adams as Florida's other 2013 wide receiver commit.
