GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- ESPNU 150 Watch List defensive back Mackensie Alexander (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee) was scheduled to watch Florida practice on Saturday with his family. Alexander was running late, however, and missed the practice. That didn't stop the talented corner from spending time with the Florida coaches.
Alexander, who was accompanied by his parents and his younger brother, said his visit to Florida was "awesome."
"It was a great visit," Alexander said. "My parents came with me and they really liked it. It was awesome, just looking at the place and having fun with my brother and then being with the coaching staff and seeing how they do things."
For Alexander's parents, this was their first time visiting Florida, and they came away impressed.
"They thought it was cool," he said. "They liked the place. It's a cool place and it's not far from home. They liked the coaching staff and the way they treat the players. They think they have a good thing going on right here."
Alexander recently decommitted from Tennessee, and even though this was his third trip to Gainesville, he said he is still wide open in his recruitment.
"I'm just weighing out my options right now and checking schools out," Alexander said. "I'm interested in several schools but I'm still wide open. I'm just looking around. I don't want to list the schools that I'm interested in because I am open, and I don't want to leave any schools out. Everybody is the same right now."
Even though Alexander missed the practice, he had a chance to see the players in the locker room and he also had a chance to speak with the Florida coaches.
"I liked the players and how they do things as far as like how they go about their business, and how they do things is what really stood out to me," he said. "Then I really got to know the coaches more. It's good to get to know the coaches more and know how they are going to treat you and how they are going to coach you and stuff like that."
For Alexander, he hasn't set up any more visits for the spring, but said he is planning to get to several schools over the next few months.
"I'm going to visit Miami, I'm going to try and visit Notre Dame, Texas A&M and Ohio State. I mean those are just some of the schools I want to get to, but I'd like to visit several other schools, too."
Alexander, who said he could announce his decision either sometime this summer or at the Under Armour All-America Game, said there are certain criteria he is looking for when deciding on a school.
"I'm just looking at where is my best option at," he said. "As far as school, academics, OK, can I do my work and finish school and where am I going to to get in to the least amount of trouble at? As far as playing time, wherever that best opportunity at that time and I don't know where that is, then I'll have a feel for everything then."
