Florida recruiting: Hot Five trending

1/30/2012

GAINESVILLE, Fla. --Two weeks ago GatorNation released its Hot Five list of Florida's top targets remaining on the board. With only a short time remaining until signing day we will revisit that list. Here is the Hot Five prospects and where they are trending.

1. Stefon Diggs (Olney Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) -- Trending:

Diggs visited Ohio State this past weekend and by all accounts enjoyed his visit to Columbus. He will make his announcement on Feb. 10. Diggs' mother did not make the trip with him, as she did on his Florida visit. The Gators still stand a great chance with him, but Ohio State has certainly closed the gap.We have him as trending down, not because of anything Florida has done, but more based on what Ohio State has done recently.

2. Josh Harvey-Clemons (Valdosta, Ga./Lowndes) -- Trending:

This is a three-team battle between Florida State, Florida and Georgia. The Gators are recruiting Harvey-Clemons as an outside linebacker, but have also promised him a package at receiver. He also stated in a recent interview that Florida has recruited him the hardest. Will that be enough to win him over? We will find out early on signing day.

3. Tracy Howard (Miramar, Fla./Miramar HS) -- Trending:

Howard visited Miami (Fla.) this past weekend and really enjoyed what the Canes had to offer. The Gators were thought to be the clear leader for Howard, but after his Miami visit things have gotten much closer. Like Diggs, we have Howard as trending down but still feel he will will be a Gator in the end.

4. Dante Fowler Jr. (St. Petersburg, Fla./Lakewood) -- Trending:

Fowler might be the hardest player to read in the country. He has consistently said he is solid to Florida State, but he's also consistently talked with and visit Florida. This one will come down to the wire, but the Gators have a real shot to flip the talented defensive end/linebacker.

5. Leonard Williams (Daytona Beach, Fla./Mainland) -- Trending:

Most thought Williams was an Auburn/Florida State race, but in a an interesting twist, Williams said he will make his decision between USC and Florida on signing day. Williams admittedly grew up liking the Gators. Adding a guy like Williams would certainly help bolster an already talented front seven in this class. It's is a close call, but the Gators are in much better position than they were just a few short weeks ago.

Just missed the Hot Five

Darius Hamilton (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco) -- The talented defensive end has always liked Rutgers because of proximity. With the Scarlet Knights reportedly naming former offensive line coach Kyle Flood as their new head coach, Rutgers still has the inside track to land Hamilton. After a weekend visit to Miami, the Canes have also moved up on Hamilton's list.

Nelson Agholor (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) -- Agholor visited USC this weekend. Because of a Berkeley Prep basketball game on Friday night he arrived late to USC and wasn't able to leave until Monday morning. With this being a dead period, that means USC had the last in-person contact with Agholor before he announces on Wednesday. This will be a close race, but many feel USC is the team to beat for Agholor.

Schyler Miles (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) -- Miles visited Kansas last weekend and will make his decision public on signing day. He will choose between Florida, West Virginia and Kansas.
