Marqui Hawkins transferring from Florida

April, 30, 2014
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Redshirt freshman Marqui Hawkins will transfer from Florida, head coach Will Muschamp said on Wednesday.

Hawkins, who didn't get any playing time in his first year, fell behind on the wide receiver depth chart and was moved to safety during spring practice. He dressed but did not play in Florida's spring game.

"Marqui Hawkins and I had a good talk," Muschamp said. "Marqui's a great young man doing a great job academically, on and off the field. He wanted an opportunity to play wideout and didn’t know if that was going to be the case here at Florida, so he decided to transfer."

Hawkins was a four-star prospect in Florida's 2013 class. He was rated the No. 25 wide receiver prospect in the nation and was ranked No. 196 overall in the ESPN 300.
