GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida coach Will Muschamp likes a lot of things about newly hired offensive coordinator Brent Pease.
Pease is an aggressive play-caller, has a proven record of developing quarterbacks and receivers, believes in a balanced offense and has a personality that meshes well with the rest of the Gators’ coaching staff.
But the thing Muschamp likes most about Pease is that he has called plays in the Southeastern Conference. That was the one quality Muschamp definitely wanted in the person he hired to replace Charlie Weis.

Haubert and Luginbill will discuss other movers and shakers in the top 25 and reflect on recent commitments from players like Channing Ward, Barry Sanders Jr. and Jordan Jenkins. The analysts will also take a look at players whose stock increased after the recent national and regional all-star games.
RecruitingNation writers will contribute with a look at what's still on the board at Michigan and how USC is dealing with sanctions.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida coach Billy Donovan enjoyed watching his team rout Georgia on Tuesday night, but there was a part of him that wished he were 1,000 miles away.
Donovan would have liked to have been in Providence, R.I., so he could take part in a ceremony honoring the 25th anniversary of the 1987 Providence College basketball team's Final Four berth. The school had a ceremony at halftime of the Friars' Tuesday night game against Louisville, and coach Rick Pitino, who first made a name for himself by taking Providence to the Final Four that was played in Louisville's Freedom Hall.
"It would have been awesome [to be there]," Donovan said after UF's 70-48 victory.
Donovan sent a video message that was played during the halftime ceremony. He was one of three players who were unable to make the trip -- Brian Benham and David Snedeker are the others -- but he still was able to hook up with his former teammates via phone on Monday night and Tuesday.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida coach Billy Donovan said freshman Bradley Beal needed to find a way to work through the struggles that had plagued him the past month, but he was confident Beal would eventually figure it out.
Looks like he did on Tuesday night in Florida's 70-48 win over Georgia.
The 6-foot-3 guard from St. Louis scored 17 points and tied his career high with 10 rebounds. It was his best performance since he scored 21 points in UF's 82-64 victory over Florida State on Dec. 22. Beal went 7-for-15 from the floor -- including 4-for-8 from 3-point range -- against the Seminoles, but since then had made just 14-of-47 shots from the floor and 2-of-16 shots from 3-point range.
On Tuesday he went 4-for-8 from the field, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range, and went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. Beal went 4-for-5 from 3-point range in the first half. His double-double was the third of his career.
Player of the game: Beal delivered his best game of 2012. He said on Monday that he was not losing confidence in his offensive game despite shooting just 29.8 percent from the floor in his last four games. That included a stretch in which he missed seven 3-point attempts in a row over the four games, including an 0-for-2 performance against Yale and an 0-for-3 performance against UAB. He made his first 3-point attempt against Georgia, missed the next, and didn't miss until he had a desperation 3-pointer blocked as the shot clock was expiring with five minutes remaining in the game.

With signing day less than a month away you would think top wide receiver Stefon Diggs (Olney, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) would be closing in on making his decision. Diggs, however, says he’s nowhere near ready to make a college choice.
“I don’t have a leader or top five or anything like that,” Diggs said Tuesday night. “I’m wide open, and I’m planning on waiting until after signing day to make my final decision.”
Diggs, ranked the No.10 player in the country by the ESPNU 150, will visit Auburn this weekend but said he’s not sure what his plans will be in the future.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The biggest beneficiaries of offensive coordinator Brent Pease's hiring at Florida -- other than quarterbacks Jeff Driskel and Jacoby Brissett -- might end up being the Gators' receivers.
Pease was the offensive coordinator at Boise State for just one season, and he helped the Broncos finish ninth in the nation in total offense (481.31 yards per game), sixth in scoring (44.23 points per game), 41st in rushing (171.92 yards per game) and 11th in passing (309.38 yards per game) behind record-setting quarterback Kellen Moore. But he spent the five previous seasons tutoring Boise State's receivers and developed two into NFL receivers.
Austin Pettis is the school's all-time leader in receptions (229) and receiving touchdowns (39) and is second in career yardage (2,838). Titus Young is the all-time leader in receiving yards (3,063) and is second in career receptions (204). They were third- and fourth-round draft picks, respectively, last April.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Arkansas wide receiver commit Courtney Gardner (Reno, Nev./Sierra College) has only been committed to the Razorbacks since Dec. 15, but he is still keeping his options open.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound receiver will officially visit Florida State this weekend and Florida on Jan. 20.
ESPN.com reported on Tuesday that former Boise State offensive coordinator Brent Pease will be named Florida’s new offensive coordinator on Wednesday. The reports didn’t take long to reach Gardner.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida tight end commit Colin Thompson (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) said former Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Weis was a big reason he committed to Florida. Now he's excited about Weis' replacement.
ESPN.com’s SEC blogger Edward Aschoff reported that Florida will name former Boise State offensive coordinator Brent Pease its new offensive coordinator on Wednesday.
“I think it’s a great pickup for Florida,” Thompson said. “I had a chance to see Boise State play a few times. They use their tight ends a lot. They run the ball and run hard, and they throw it a lot, too. It’s a good offense, and I think he will help us get back to winning SEC and national championships.”

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- It’s time to dip in to the GatorNation recruiting mailbag and answer the questions you want to know. Because of the amount of questions we’ve received, we won’t be able to get to all of them today, but we encourage you to ask your questions on our Insider fan forum, "The Chompions Club."
@TWelte15 - So after losing Jordan Jenkins, where are we with Darius Hamilton?
A: Hamilton and Jenkins are being recruited for two separate positions, so the loss of Jenkins to UGA shouldn’t affect Hamilton in one way or another. Hamilton wants to play defensive tackle, but at 6-foot-4, 245 pounds, it’s likely he will start off as a strong side defensive end and eventually move to tackle. That he is bringing his mom for an unofficial visit to Florida is big news for the Gators. He recently visited Gainesville and the fact his family is paying for another visit should tell you just how interested he is in the Gators.

After a junior season in which he made 84 tackles, including an outrageous 45 tackles for loss and 10 sacks, defensive tackle Montravius Adams (Vienna, Ga./Dooly County) arrived for Rising Seniors last month in Atlanta with an offer from Clemson and some of the most impressive highlights in the entire Peach State. After dominating in practice all week and impressing in the Georgia Junior Bowl, Adams has since picked up offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Kentucky.
“It has been good getting all of these big-time offers,” Adams said. “I know playing in this Rising Seniors game helped me a lot with my stock. It feels good to know I have the grades and chance to go to a big-time college and play football.”
Maryland coaches came by his school last Friday, and the Terrapins are contemplating offering soon. LSU is expected to stop by this week, while FSU, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon, Tennessee and Texas A&M are showing interest.
