GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Junior day is where it all begins.
Florida has gotten its class of 2013 off to a great start with four commitments, but the first big junior day always sets the tone for the rest of the recruiting cycle. That day is Saturday.
Five-star safety and ESPNU 150 watch list prospect Nick Washington will be making the short trek from Jacksonville to Gainesville. Washington has seen the Florida campus several times, but he wants to use this opportunity to get his parents acquainted with what Florida has to offer.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Tuesday's victory over Alabama was a significant one for Florida coach Billy Donovan -- and not only because it snapped a two-game losing streak and helped the Gators remain in second place in the Southeastern Conference.
It was UF's 20th victory of the season, and that extended Donovan's streak of consecutive 20-win seasons to 14. That puts him among some elite company in college basketball history.
According to ESPN Stats & Information, Donovan is one of only eight coaches in NCAA Division I history who have won at least 20 games in 14 or more consecutive seasons. It's an impressive list, headed by Dean Smith, who won at least 20 games for a record 27 consecutive seasons at North Carolina from 1971-1997. Arizona's Lute Olson is second with 20 consecutive seasons of at least 20 victories.
Some other interesting tidbits about the list:
Minnesota's Tubby Smith won at least 20 games in 17 consecutive seasons from 1994-2010 while coaching four teams: Tulsa, Georgia, Kentucky and Minnesota.

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Signing day has come and gone, but LSU is still trying to plug some missing holes in the class of 2012.
The Tigers search has taken them to the College of San Mateo, a junior college in California, this past week.
There, LSU is hoping to secure the services of San Mateo offensive tackle Fehoko Fanaika, the school’s standout offensive guard in the 2012 class. LSU joined the likes of stalwart programs such as Georgia and Nebraska when offensive line coach Greg Studrawa called to offer Fanaika a scholarship.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A.C. Leonard is the ninth Florida player arrested since coach Will Muschamp took over for Urban Meyer in January 2011. It is by far the most serious of the transgressions committed. Here's a look at the list of arrests:
Janoris Jenkins: Arrested twice for possession of marijuana (Jan. 22, 2011 and April 23, 2011). He was dismissed from the team.
Kedric Johnson: Arrested for possession of marijuana Jan. 27, 2011. Still on the team. Team punishment not announced.

Armwood (Seffner, Fla.) safety Leon McQuay III hasn't said much about his recruitment so far, but in recent weeks the 6-foot-1, 190-pound junior has started to look around.
He was at South Florida's junior day last weekend with teammate Alvin Bailey, and he is expected to be at this weekend's junior day event at Florida.
McQuay, who had a defensive touchdown for Armwood in their Class 6A state championship victory over Miami Central, doesn't appear to be in a rush to do anything.

Jones (Orlando, Fla.) defensive end Devin Washington added an offer from South Carolina on Wednesday pushing the offer list of the 6-foot-3, 220-pound junior to a half dozen.
"South Carolina has been recruiting me for quite a while," Washington said. "So I kind of expected them to come through with an offer eventually."
Washington said he's looking to visit the campus sometime during the spring.

Buford (Ga.) High School, one of the premier programs in the Southeast in the last decade, has produced some high-caliber offensive linemen in the past five years. In 2009, Dallas Lee signed with Georgia, and in 2010, Kolton Houston did the same. DuVon Millsap signed with South Carolina the same year before enrolling at Itawamba Community College. Last year Vadal Alexander signed with LSU. And in 2013, it’s possible this pipeline of offensive linemen to the SEC could continue with Josh Cardiello.
After competing at Dawg Night last summer and attending Georgia's home game against Kentucky, Cardiello took part in the Rising Seniors program in December, starting in the Georgia Junior Bowl in Atlanta. Several programs had been showing interest, and a week ago Cardiello got his first offer from Florida. On Monday, South Carolina offered; on Tuesday, Georgia followed.
“It has been crazy,” Cardiello said. “Getting three SEC offers has been fun, and now I am looking forward to talking to the coaches more and getting to see what these schools are all about.”

AP Photo/Eric FrancisKevin O'Sullivan's Florida Gators aim to find their way back to the championship series ... and win it.The Gators sit atop the Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America and USA Today/ESPN Coaches preseasons polls and had an NCAA-record seven players named preseason All-Americans by Louisville Slugger and Baseball America. Perfect Game tabbed five UF players preseason All-Americans, and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association had five on its list.
UF returns seven position starters and nine pitchers from last year’s team that finished runner-up to national champion South Carolina in the College World Series. The Gators also have 14 players who are projected to be drafted in June -- including seven who could go in the first three rounds.
With all that talent and experience, expectations for the Gators are pretty high in 2012. Just making the College World Series -- something UF has done only seven times in school history -- isn’t even enough. It’s almost national title or bust.
“This isn’t the first time they’ve had expectations. They’ve been through this before, especially last year,” UF coach Kevin O’Sullivan said. “Hopefully they’ll draw from their experiences last year and be well prepared for it this year. We’ve talked about it. It’s Florida. There’s expectations. We want to be in Omaha every year and compete for a national championships.”

Defensive end Carl Lawson (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton) hadn't heard much from the USC coaching staff until Tuesday. That's when the 6-foot-3, 240-pound athlete was able to speak with USC coaches Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron for the first time.
"They asked if I was interested in USC," Lawson said. "I said, 'Who wouldn't be?' "
Lawson said the USC coaches always had a scholarship earmarked for him but simply wanted to get a read on if USC would even be a possibility for Lawson. He said he was already planning to take an unofficial visit to California this summer to visit UCLA, and said he will definitely have two Los Angeles stops to make, as he'll stop by USC as well.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- It was only a matter of time before reality caught up with the Crimson Tide. Alabama held serve in the first half only to be dominated by No. 12 Florida in the final 20 minutes, losing at home 61-52.
Florida was led by forward Patric Young, who finished with 19 points on 9 of 12 shooting.
Trevor Releford and Andrew Steele, who were suspended indefinitely before the Tide’s last game at LSU, returned to the starting lineup on Tuesday. Steele had 11 points and Releford finished with 8 points, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Big men, big advantage
Alabama couldn’t overcome the discrepancy in the paint with forward JaMychal Green still out due to suspension. Carl Engstrom, Nick Jacobs and Moussa Gueye played center-by-committee and the Gators took advantage. Florida’s starting forward, Patric Young, and starting center, Erik Murphy, combined for 33 points and 11 rebounds.
