ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- 2014 defensive end Keyon Brown (Wauchula, Fla./Hardee) had a blistering pace to his process going when four offers flew in from Louisiana-Lafayette, Miami, Pittsburgh and UCF.

Things now have been a little more manageable. Brown says he's still talking to teams the same, but it is at a slower rate.

"Right now, I am not really decided or anything like that," he said. "I probably won't decide until next year where I am going. The recruiting process started off crazy. It has kind of slowed down, it is steady, but it isn't as crazy as it was."

SAN ANTONIO -- In recruiting, players can hate the process one day, love it the next.

ESPN 300 defensive end Joe Mathis (Upland, Calif./Upland) has seen both sides, but is looking to make the process a past discussion.

Mathis is one of seven players expected to announce where they’ll play college football during Saturday’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome. While many feel he’s leaning toward one school, Mathis said he’s eyed four schools fairly evenly.

SAN ANTONIO -- Wednesday was a day off for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl teams. Instead of working out and participating in drills, the players took in visits around the city -- including a stop at the Alamodome for photo opportunities and to see their game apparel -- and used the day to recover from two days of practice.

The teams will return to the fields on Thursday in arguably the most important practice of the week. Here are five things to keep an eye on for Thursday’s practice:

SAN ANTONIO – ESPN 150 wide receiver James Quick (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) has drawn plenty of attention for his play through two practices for the East team in preparation for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

He’ll garner even more eyes his way on Saturday when he announces his commitment during the game.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder said he is down to Louisville, Ohio State and Oregon. Though his decision will come Saturday, it could be finalized by Wednesday morning, as he sits down to discuss his options with his parents, who are in town for the event.

Two powerhouse programs in the Southeastern Conference look to battle it out for one of the standout running backs, and one of the top uncommitted offensive linemen is out with an injury.

Please excuse class of 2014 athlete Rashawn Shaw (Fort Pierce, Fla./Central) if he can’t think much beyond his big game against Vero Beach (Fla.) on Thursday.

"So far the season is going real well and we'll be facing Vero Beach (on Thursday),” Shaw said. “The game is going to be streaming on the Internet I believe. It should be a fun game.”

This year Shaw has been getting bigger -- he said Florida coaches measured him at 6-foot-2, 227 pounds -- and making several trips around the state.

Jonathan Haden (Washington, D.C./Friendship Collegiate Academy), the brother of Cleveland Browns cornerback and former Florida Gators cornerback Joe Haden.

Class of 2014 prospect Kris Harris (Tallahassee, Fla./Godby) has been forced to wear many hats thus far in summer training camp for his high school program. The 6-foot, 215-pound junior is cross-training at inside and outside linebacker but will also play some offense.

"I'm also working out at running back," Harris said. "I'll probably be one of our running backs when we're in the red zone or in short yardage."

It's the sort of versatility that has put Harris on the map so early in his career. He has played running back in the past and even got the attention of Alabama head coach Nick Saban when he worked out at Alabama's camp before his freshman season.

It seems that every summer one under-the-radar prospect emerges and grabs the attention of college coaches and basketball analysts alike. This year it appears to be Kentan Facey.

The native of Jamaica, who came to the United States a couple of years ago, is 6-foot-8, 190 pounds and has a 7-1 wingspan. In 2011, he enrolled with Upper Room Christian in Long Island before transferring after the season to his new school, Long Island Lutheran. This time one year ago he was playing AAU basketball for the New Heights Program, but wasn't really a factor. He was trying acclimate to the culture. To say he was raw would be an understatement

"When I came to the States I had no idea what to expect," Facey said. "The speed of the game was at another level. It was a huge adjustment. I had a hard time just catching the ball."

Chigozie Onyekwere often gets overshadowed by some of the more well-known prospects at Washington (D.C.) Friendship. That may not be the case much longer.

The 2014 receiver already has one scholarship offer from North Carolina State.

“NC State is pretty good,” the 5-foot-11, 188-pound prospect said. “It's a good school. I've got family down there, so North Carolina is a good school for me.”

The re-recruitment of former McDonald’s All-American and Pittsburgh freshman Khem Birch, officially begins this week. According to Birch’s mother, the process begins on Tuesday.

“Starting tomorrow he’s going to go to visit Florida, New Mexico State and UNLV,” Wendy Sparks said. “The next week he wants to take a visit, too. I’m not sure where he’s going to visit next but he wants to make his decision next week.”

Gonzaga and Oregon State, according to Sparks, are on a list for visits as well. The reality is a decision is in the near future so the process is more like speed dating. By mid-January at the latest, Birch will need to be enrolled in a new school.
