ESPN Watch List athlete Johnnie Dixon (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Dwyer) admits that he needs to start thinking about the recruiting process a little more.

But it’s hard for the 5-foot-11, 190-pound junior to deal with recruiting too much during the playoffs, especially when he is such a key component of Dwyer’s offense.

In Friday night’s 25-3 victory over Oakland Park (Fla.) Northeast, Dixon had six catches for 101 yards.

Please excuse class of 2014 athlete Rashawn Shaw (Fort Pierce, Fla./Central) if he can’t think much beyond his big game against Vero Beach (Fla.) on Thursday.

"So far the season is going real well and we'll be facing Vero Beach (on Thursday),” Shaw said. “The game is going to be streaming on the Internet I believe. It should be a fun game.”

This year Shaw has been getting bigger -- he said Florida coaches measured him at 6-foot-2, 227 pounds -- and making several trips around the state.

2014 WR Kendrick Holland is one to watch

Class of 2014 wide receiver Kendrick Holland (Winter Haven, Fla./Winter Haven) did most of his damage as a blocker for ESPN 300 teammate Adam Lane in Winter Haven's 27-21 victory over Kathleen last Thursday. But the 6-foot-3, 172-pound junior has already garnered plenty of attention for his pass-catching abilities.

Holland received an offer from Clemson when he attended a camp there over the summer and is waiting for his next one as new schools roll in daily.

"Right now I'm hearing from a bunch of programs," Holland said. "Florida State, Miami, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Georgia... a lot more schools than that. They are all coming in, grabbing film and we'll see what happens."

Taking a look around Florida

More thoughts from the weekend and looking ahead:

Walters shows out: With Miami Central's highly-touted 2014 running back prospects Joseph Yearby and Dalvin Cooke expected to be the toughest test to date for Manatee's defensive line, it was the Hurricanes' 2014 prospect at running back that gave Central all it could handle. Trevon Walters showed that he is going to be a name to watch for the rest of this season. He had 107 yards rushing and 120 yards receiving on just 18 touches in Friday's 44-34 victory over Central. He scored on a shovel pass from 54 yards out and had a game-clinching 85-yard run late in the fourth quarter. "I feel like Trevon is going to be a major prospect and we're starting to expect games like he had (Friday)," said Manatee coach Joe Kinnan.

Central has a quarterback: After experimenting with junior Brandon Diaz, who has since moved to linebacker, and Yearby, who keyed a comeback victory over Booker T. Washington last Saturday, Miami Central seems to have found a guy who can hold down the spot for the rest of the season in 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior Keith Reed. He took over the reins from Yearby in the second quarter and threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns.

CITRA, Fla. -- Cornerback Dominique Brown (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic) will be one of the top defensive back prospects in the state of Florida next season.

For class of 2015 quarterback prospect Christian Alexander (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland Christian) there was no better way to learn how to be a top quarterback than to get on the field and go through the ups and downs of a freshman year.

Under the tutelage of former University of Florida quarterback and current Lakeland Christian head coach Wayne Peace, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound sophomore said he learned a lot during the 2011 season.

"Every game wasn't great, but I got something out of them," Alexander said. "Coach Peace showed a lot of faith in me last year and each week I tried to get better and correct my mistakes."
