Tide, Vols offer WR Nate Andrews
By Greg Ostendorf
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Wide receiver Nate Andrews (Fairhope, Ala./Fairhope) committed to Minnesota earlier this month, but since making that decision, he’s seen his recruitment take off with scholarship offers from Tennessee and most recently, Alabama.
On Tuesday, UA head coach Nick Saban talked to Andrews directly and told him the Crimson Tide had decided to offer.
“They’re winning,” Andrews said of Alabama. “Coach Saban, he’s a good person, and all of their players are well-disciplined and good people all around. They have a winning tradition.
“I was happy, but I’m still committed to Minnesota.”
Last week, Andrews competed in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game. After a strong week of practice, Tennessee gave him an offer after Saturday's game. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound athlete was surprised given his performance in the all-star game.
“They offered me right after the game,” Andrews said. “I was shocked about the Tennessee offer. I really didn’t think I played that good, and they offered me. That’s why I was really surprised.”
Andrews played on both sides of the ball for the Alabama squad. He’s listed as a wide receiver, but most schools are talking to him about the possibility of playing defense at the next level.
The in-state star plans to take official visits to Alabama and Florida State next month.
