 TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama added two new pieces to its 2013 class over the weekend -- one received a scholarship offer on Saturday and the other plans to walk on in hopes of earning a scholarship once he gets to Tuscaloosa.

After an impressive week at the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game, cornerback Jonathan Cook (Spanish Fort, Ala./Spanish Fort) was offered a scholarship by UA defensive coordinator Kirby Smart after the game. It was the offer he was waiting on, and it didn’t take him long to accept as he flipped from Nebraska to Alabama.

“It’s something I’ve been wanting to do the whole time,” Cook said. “It’s always been the school that I wanted to play for, and that’s what I’m going to do. I just thank God for it.”

Quarterback Luke Del Rio (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Valor Christian) plans to take a different route. The former Oklahoma State commit visited Alabama last week, and afterwards, he opted to walk on with the Crimson Tide despite having a scholarship offer to play for Oregon State.

“Obviously, you want to be wanted, and I felt wanted at Alabama,” Del Rio said. “I’m not afraid to work to earn a scholarship. That’s never been a big deal for me. I trust my work ethic, and I feel like I could be able to earn one, eventually.”

Del Rio joins fellow signal-callers Cooper Bateman and Parker McLeod in the class.
