Recruiting picks up for CB Jonathan Cook
By Greg Ostendorf
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Life is good for three-star cornerback Jonathan Cook (Spanish Fort, Ala./Spanish Fort). He just won a state championship, and this week, he’s playing defensive back for the Alabama squad in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game.
In the state title game, Cook caught a 25-yard touchdown pass as Spanish Fort High School cruised to a 42-14 victory.
“It felt real good,” he said. “That was the main thing we worked for.”
Now it’s time to turn his attention to recruiting. Cook is committed to Nebraska, but Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee all have been talking to him recently. He’s still hoping for that offer from the Crimson Tide.
“We’ve just been talking, but I’m pretty sure I’ll get that offer soon,” he said.
Cook also could be close to an offer from the other in-state powerhouse now that Gus Malzahn has been hired as the new head coach on The Plains.
“I met Coach Malzahn the day he was hired,” Cook said. “We had walk-throughs at Auburn, and he came down and talked to me. That was my first time every seeing him, but it went pretty good. He offered me at Arkansas State.”
For now, Cook remains committed to Nebraska, and the Cornhuskers came by for an in-home visit with the star cornerback on Sunday. He already took his official visit to Nebraska during the season.
He has plans to take an official visit to both Minnesota and Ole Miss before signing day.
