Juniors Moss, Thomas ready to commit
By Greg Ostendorf
ASHVILLE, Ala. -- Although they don’t play on the same team, 2014 prospects E.J. Moss and Racean Thomas have a close relationship. The Alabama duo visited a number of schools together this fall, and as far as making a decision, they’re both set.
“We’re both ready to go ahead and do it,” Moss said. “I don’t know what we’re waiting on, but we’re waiting for a little bit before we do this, just to make sure, to make sure we know exactly what we’re doing.”
Both Moss and Thomas have offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State and Tennessee, and plenty of other SEC schools have shown interest.
Moss visited the four schools listed above for games this fall, and he says he has also received mail from Florida State, Georgia and LSU. His most recent trip was to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the Iron Bowl at the end of November.
“That’s a really good game for people who are from here,” Moss said. “That’s a really big game for both Alabama and Auburn fans. I know it wasn’t really a close game, but it was just good to be there at the Iron Bowl game.”
At the game, Moss talked to UA coach Nick Saban, as well as defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. He’s listed as a quarterback, but Alabama likes the idea of moving Moss to defense if he chooses the Tide. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound athlete played linebacker for the first time this year at his high school.
“It really doesn’t matter to me,” Moss said. “I’m willing to play any position. I like inside linebacker, and outside linebacker is cool with me. Defensive end, I like defensive end. On defense, you’ve got to have a heart to play defense, and I think I’ve got that.
“On offense, if I wasn’t playing quarterback, I think I can play tight end, too.”
Moss is in the middle of basketball season, but he’s hoping to start working out soon and wants to add more than 20 pounds before the start of his senior year.
