Tide OL pledge Hill enjoys official visit

By Greg Ostendorf

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- ESPN 300 offensive lineman Grant Hill (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville) is as solid as ever with his commitment to Alabama, so while the coaching staff tried to sway some of the other recruits who were in town, they spent more time building the relationship with Hill and his family during his official visit this weekend.

“It was a great experience,” Hill said. “It was more of a get-to-know weekend as opposed to an unofficial where all you do is see the sights. On the official visit, you really go in-depth.”

The best part?

“The food,” Hill said. “We ate at Chuck’s in Tuscaloosa, and it was all-you-can-eat everything. It was incredible. It was, bar none, the best food I’ve ever had.”

The weekend provided more of a laid-back environment, and Hill spent a lot of time with the UA coaches, in particular, his future position coach Jeff Stoutland. The initial relationship with Stoutland was one of the main reasons Hill chose the Tide.

“I really like him,” Hill said. “I think he’s a great coach, and obviously he fields a very, very good offensive line. I like his personality. I just think he’s a great coach, a great man, and I’m excited to go play for him.”

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound prospect was one of four offensive linemen on campus over the weekend, but he talked the most with fellow Alabama commitment and ESPN 150 tight end O.J. Howard. Both are ranked among the top 10 in the state of Alabama.

Next up for Hill is the Under Armour All-America Game. He’s already working with his personal trainer to stay in shape for the game, but he’s more excited just to be a part of it.

“I’m just going down there to play and have fun and do the best I can,” Hill said. “I don’t feel like I have to prove anything.”

The game is Friday, Jan. 4 in Tampa, Fla.
