Weekend Rewind: Alabama

By Greg Ostendorf

The rubber match between Alabama and LSU took place Saturday, and the game certainly lived up to the hype. The Crimson Tide put together a late drive to come back and steal a victory in Death Valley. Despite the loss, the game gave LSU a chance to host some of the nation’s top recruits in the 2013, 2014 and 2015 classes.

The game was obviously big for ESPN 150 stars Kendell Beckwith (Jackson, La./East Feliciana) and Tim Williams (Baton Rouge, La./University Laboratory), who both have Alabama and LSU at the top of their lists, but a pair of ESPN Watch List stars from the state of Alabama had two very different experiences in Baton Rouge over the weekend.

Linebacker Tre Williams (Mobile, Ala./St. Paul’s), who has offers from the Tide and the Tigers, had a great time at the game. He said he wasn’t surprised with how well LSU played, and he was happy just to see a good football game. More than anything, he was impressed with the record crowd inside Death Valley.

“It was good, especially the fan base,” Williams said. “It was the most attendance ever at LSU, so it was great to be a part of that. It was loud the whole game. I could barely hear myself talk. It was just a great game to be at.”

On the other hand, 2014 running back and Alabama commitment Bo Scarbrough (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Northridge) didn’t have such a great time. When he got there, they couldn’t find his tickets, and when he was supposed to meet with LSU coach Les Miles after the game, nobody showed up. Needless to say, Scarbrough’s commitment to the Tide remains solid.
