LB Tre Williams talks Bama-LSU game

By Greg Ostendorf

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- ESPN Watch List linebacker Tre Williams (Mobile, Ala./St. Paul’s) visited LSU last year for the Auburn game, but it was nothing compared to his trip to Baton Rouge, La., over the weekend, where he watched Alabama escape with a narrow victory over the Tigers.

“It was good, especially the fan base,” Williams said. “It was the most attendance ever at LSU, so it was great to be a part of that. It was loud the whole game. I could barely hear myself talk. It was just a great game to be at.”

As for the game itself, Williams wasn’t surprised that LSU stayed right with the Crimson Tide, the No. 1 team in the nation.

“LSU came out to play ball,” he said. “Everybody thought Alabama was going to run over LSU, but I knew if LSU came out to play, it would be a close game. They came out first and put it to Alabama, and [Alabama] played like they were shocked, like they didn’t know LSU was going to play that hard. But in the last minute, ‘Bama just took over.”

Williams made the trip with his teammates at St. Paul’s, 2013 running back Jordan Huff and 2014 offensive lineman Josh Casher.

At this point, Williams has no favorites when it comes to recruiting. The Alabama native has double-digit scholarship offers from some of the top programs in the country, but he plans to wait until after his junior season to make a list.

However, LSU might have made a jump after this last visit.

“They really improved, because I haven’t been to LSU since last year, and watching that game and watching their fan base, it was just great to be there,” Williams said.

The star linebacker will visit Alabama on Saturday for the Texas A&M game, and he’s also planning to visit Auburn the following weekend.
