SEC recruiting storylines: Aug. 22

By Derek Tyson

The college football season is only seven days away, but there is still a lot of recruiting action happening around the SEC. Here is a closer look at some of the hot topics throughout the conference:

Louisiana teammates set official visits

New Orleans Edna Karr teammates Speedy Noil and Gerald Willis III have set up two official visits to SEC schools. The talented duo are scheduled to visit Texas A&M on Sept. 13, as the Aggies take on Alabama that weekend.

The following week, Noil, the No. 8-ranked player in the country, and Willis III, the No. 29-ranked player in the country, will visit Florida to watch the Gators take on Tennessee.

No other visits have been set up for the two players.

Cameron Sims set to announce

ESPN 300 wide receiver Cameron Sims (Monroe, La./Ouachita Parish) is set to announce his decision Saturday. Sims, the No. 6-ranked wide receiver in the country, will choose between Alabama, Ole Miss, Southern University, Oklahoma State and Southern Miss.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound pass-catcher will announce his decision at around 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU's "SportsCenterU."

Sims has family ties to Southern, but Alabama and Ole Miss are also at the top of his list.

Speaks has top four

Defensive end Breeland Speaks (Jackson, Miss./Callaway) has started to narrow things down. The 6-3, 281-pound athlete has Florida State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Arkansas in his top four.

Speaks claims to have no leader, but it appears that Ole Miss might have the inside track. Three of Speaks' teammates -- offensive tackle Rod Taylor, safety Ronald Walker and wide receiver Dayall Harris -- are committed to the Rebels.

Speaks has not set any official visits yet and has no decision date set.

Top RB cancels Texas A&M visit

ESPN 300 running back Joe Mixon (Oakley, Calif./Freedom) announced on Twitter Wednesday that he has canceled a scheduled official visit to Texas A&M and instead will visit California on Sept. 14, when it takes on Ohio State.

In addition to the Cal visit, Mixon also has visits set up to Florida on Sept. 20, Oklahoma on Oct. 4 and Wisconsin on Oct. 11.

Aggies add ESPN Junior 300 RB

While Mixon canceled his visit to Texas A&M, it wasn't all bad news for the Aggies. Rising junior running back (Splendora, Texas/Splendora) committed to A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin on Wednesday evening.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Bradford chose the Aggies over offers from Texas and Texas Tech. Bradford is the No. 238th-ranked player in the country for 2015 and rushed for more than 1,300 yards as a sophomore.

All three of Texas A&M's 2015 commitments are ranked in the ESPN Junior 300.
