ESPN 100 PG Coleman picks Tide
By Reggie Rankin
ESPN 100 point guard Justin Coleman (Birmingham, Ala./Wenonah) committed to Alabama on Wednesday over offers from Auburn, Arkansas, UAB, Butler and Xavier, among others.
No. 72 recruit Justin Coleman committed to Alabama on Wednesday.
Coleman’s pledge puts the Crimson Tide on the board in the 2014 class with the No. 3-ranked player in the state of Alabama and the nation’s No. 72 overall prospect in the ESPN 100.
The point guard position was a huge priority for the Crimson Tide in the Class of 2014, so head coach Anthony Grant and his staff have filled a major need with Coleman on board.
What will he bring and how does he fit with the Tide?
The 5-foot-11, 155-pound Coleman is a true point guard who can run the team, make plays for himself or others and has the ability to score with range to the 3-point arc. He has a tight handle and is a good decision-maker who played great during July for the Georgia Stars travel team.
Coleman is also an excellent fit for Alabama’s style of play. He instantly improves the Crimson Tide fast break, can run the half-court offense as well and has the ability to lead. He can also set the tone on defense, not only in the pressure man-to-man but also as a complete nuisance in the press.
He will need to add strength, but his ability to make plays and keep the defense honest with his scoring is what makes this cat-quick floor leader special.
Coleman has all the weapons on both ends of the floor to help the Tide roll at a high level.
