2015 DT Settle visits Bama, names top five
By Greg Ostendorf
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- ESPN 300 defensive tackle Tim Settle (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) already has 17 offers, but the main schools he’s considering are the ones that he’s been to. That’s why it was so important for Alabama to get him on campus this week.
Settle visited Tuscaloosa on Sunday and Monday, where took part in the Crimson Tide’s camp.
“I just worked out for the coaches so they could see what type of player I am,” he said. “It was very fast-paced and organized. We did ladders, bags, 1-on-1s and explosive drills. But I won’t be working out for any more colleges.”
Settle has now made trips to Alabama, Ohio State and Virginia, which is why those three schools are among his top five along with Florida and Oklahoma. He’s scheduled to visit North Carolina on Wednesday.
At Alabama, the coaches were very impressed with the 6-foot-3, 308-pound defensive tackle, who is ranked No. 7 in the new ESPN Junior 300.
“Coach [Nick] Saban told me, ‘I want you here,’” Settle said. “It was great. He doesn’t talk to many football players, not face-to-face. He was just telling me the SEC is the way to go. It’s better competition. It’s good for you and will get you ready for the NFL.”
After working out on Sunday, Settle spent Monday touring the campus and checking out all that Alabama had to offer. It was his first time on campus.
“It was fun,” he said. “I saw the facilities, the academic center, the dorms where the players stay in, the apartments. I saw the game room. That thing was icy.”
Settle is already planning a return trip to Tuscaloosa for a game this fall. He also wants to try and make the Tide’s opener in Atlanta against Virginia Tech.
