OSU commit currently on visits in south

By Brad Bournival

Ohio State doesn't have to watch too closely.

Those were the words of Glenville coach Ted Ginn Sr.

Marcelys Jones' trip shouldn't worry Ohio State, said Glenville coach Tedd Ginn Sr.
Marcelys Jones (Cleveland/Glenville) is still very much a part of the Ohio State recruiting class, even though he took a trip to Georgia Tech over the weekend and is camping with Alabama this week.

The Buckeyes’ first pledge of 2014 -- he committed on Christmas Day -- joined ESPN 300 athlete Marshon Lattimore, safety Erick Smith, as well as 2015 standouts Milen Golden and Trevon Story, on a southern swing.

The Tarblooders hit Georgia Tech first, where Jones was offered, and are slated to camp with the Crimson Tide this week.

While Jones tagging along raises a few eyebrows, Ginn said it’s more a team-building thing for his star offensive lineman as Glenville prepares for the upcoming season.

“I think he’s just taking the trip, looking around and seeing what it is,” Ginn said. “He’s just trying to work on his skill set. He’s just there going along with the other guys.”

As for Jones actually becoming an active participant at the Alabama camp, it’s a matter of going up against the best of the best.

“He’s just seeing where he’s at [athletically],” Ginn said. “No question.”

There might be stops to Kentucky, Louisville and Tennessee on the way back as well, but nothing has been confirmed, according to Ginn.

Jones is one of three offensive linemen committed to Ohio State, joining Jamarco Jones (Chicago/De La Salle) and Kyle Trout (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster), as the Buckeyes try to add some depth on a unit that will lose four senior starters after the season.

He currently holds offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan State, Ohio, Ohio State, UCF, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.
