Hassenauer officially pledges to Alabama

By Jared Shanker

Since an outstanding performance at the Memphis NFTC, center J.C. Hassenauer (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) has been considered one of the most under-recruited prospects in the country. Only Minnesota and Vanderbilt offered.

Then Hassenauer camped at Alabama, and word got out that the Tide loved what they saw and offered. Now, the under-the-radar lineman is an Alabama commitment. The three-star center and his father both confirmed the commitment to ESPN.com. It was rumored he committed this weekend.

“I have committed,” Hassenauer wrote in a text message.

Offensive line has been the calling card of Alabama under Nick Saban, and the Tide have been especially strong at center. Barrett Jones won the Rimington Torphy last season, and projected starter Ryan Kelly is already on the Rimington watch list for 2013.

Hassenauer, who was invited to The Opening after a second strong NFTC performance in Ohio, is the second offensive lineman committed to the Tide in the 2014 class. Four-star Viane Talamaivao, the No. 7 guard nationally, committed at the end of May.

The month of June has been kind to Alabama, especially on the offensive side of the ball. No. 2 quarterback David Cornwell committed on June 14, and ESPN 300 receiver Derek Kief committed Sunday.
