2015 Bama commit Thompson talks plans
By Sam Khan Jr.
HOUSTON — Orange (Texas) West Orange-Stark safety Deionte Thompson made the journey to Tully Stadium on Sunday afternoon in hopes of getting some work in at the McMurry University/University of Oklahoma satellite camp.
Alabama commit Deionte Thompson will visit the Crimson Tide next month.
"Really, I just want to come out here and work on my one-on-ones and stuff," the 2015 Alabama commit said as the players waited to take the field. "Make sure I still have everything, see what I need to work on and that's mainly it."
Poor weather forced a change of plans, so Thompson and the other 100-plus players in attendance didn't get their chance to compete Sunday.
So far this summer, the 6-foot-2, 173-pound Thompson has been laying low. His focus has been school and working out. He didn't mention any camps that he plans to attend in the coming weeks and said he'll continue to focus on those two things.
"I'm going to take one week off, go back to summer school, start working out and I'll be good," Thompson said.
Thompson doesn't hold an offer from the Sooners, who he said stopped by West Orange-Stark during the spring evaluation period and invited him to the camp. He hasn't had much conversation with Sooners coaches, either. He currently holds offers from Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M and Utah and schools continue to recruit him.
Thompson, who committed to Alabama in February, said he knows of one trip he has planned for certain: one to Tuscaloosa, Ala., next month.
