Scouts: Roberts has big upside
By Tom Luginbill
On the eve of the NFL draft, when former Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner will likely be selected early in the first round, the Crimson Tide picked up a commitment from CB prospect Stephen Roberts (Opelika, Ala./Opelika).
See what our Scouts think of the newest pledge in Alabama's 2014 class:
What makes Roberts such a valued prospect is that he plays the perimeter with a safety's mentality, which gives him great upside as a nickel. He’s big, physical and he can run. He might not be quite as fluid in transition as Under Armour All-American corner Marlon Humphrey (Hoover, Ala./Hoover), but one could argue that he sets the edge more firmly and is a really good secondary run-support player who will instinctively run the alley. His size allows for him to match up in the red zone against big, physical pass-catchers.
This is a player with very big upside who fits the mold of what Alabama wants on the perimeter.
