Memphis WR talks favorites

By Dave Hooker

Cornelius Sturghill's recruitment is coming into focus.

The receiver from Memphis (Tenn.) Melrose said he is primarily considering Vanderbilt, Tennessee, UCLA, Louisville, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Duke. He has scholarship offers from Mississippi State and Vanderbilt and has visited several schools this spring, including Alabama.

"Alabama was the most impressive," the 5-foot-10, 165-pound prospect said when asked to compare his various trips around the Southeast. "It just was an unbelievable atmosphere. Tennessee ,Memphis and Vanderbilt are the schools that really just talk to me one-on-one when I went to visit. ... They really want me to contribute to what they're doing with their team."

Sturghill had considered an early commitment but said he'll now wait to take more visits and likely collect more scholarship offers. He's set to visit Mississippi State this weekend.

When asked what he's looking for in a school, he said, "I'm really focusing on three things -- which school can offer me the best education, what offensive scheme or plays does that team run because I'm looking for a team that passes mostly, and the best school that will give me the opportunity to play early if I come in and work my butt off."

He has also been recruited by Cincinnati, Purdue and Washington.
