By Damon Sayles
Junior college offensive tackle Dontavius Blair (Garden City, Kan./Garden City Community College) is considered one of the biggest gets in the Class of 2014 -- literally. At a shade under 6-foot-8 and 290 pounds, Blair is a huge tackle with 12 offers.
Blair made the visit to Knoxville, Tenn., to take in the Tennessee campus on Saturday. It was a visit he gave, on a scale of 1 to 10, “a 10.”
“It was great. They have great facilities, great coaching, great players, everything,” Blair said. “When you’re around great players, you can do great things.
“When I first came out, I liked it. I liked the atmosphere and how live it was around here. I liked being out where everybody was practicing.”
Recruited by Tennessee linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen, Blair now will turn his attention to Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Starkville, Miss. Blair, originally from Anniston, Ala., said he will make a visit to Alabama on Monday and then to Mississippi State on Thursday.
Blair currently has offers from Tennessee, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Florida State, Georgia, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, USC, South Florida, Arizona State and Kansas. He is expected to be a mid-year transfer following the 2013 season.
“The process is going great, man,” Blair said. “I owe it all to God for the blessing. I’m going [to Alabama and Mississippi State] to see what it’s like. I’m just looking for everything and looking to see why everyone else is interested.”
