2015 RB Brossette adds offer from UCLA
By Erik McKinney
Receiving four offers as a high school sophomore isn't all that uncommon anymore, but few 2015 recruits can lay claim to the quality of offers extended to running back Nick Brossette (Baton Rouge, La./University Laboratory School).
On Wednesday, the 6-foot, 210-pound tailback added his fourth offer, as UCLA joined Alabama, Florida State and LSU on his offers list.
"During football workouts, my coach called me into the gym," Brossette said. "He said UCLA was on the phone and they wanted to talk to me. I talked to [running backs coach] Steve Broussard and he said coach [Jim] Mora wanted to talk to me. He said they really wanted me and they offered me a scholarship right then and there."
Brossette said the offer didn't come out of nowhere -- he has been talking to UCLA coaches for some time now -- but that didn't take away from the moment.
"I'm very excited about it," Brossette said. "I'm very happy."
As a sophomore, Brossette rushed for 2,128 yards and scored 44 touchdowns as one of the top 2015 players in the state. With some big-time offers on the table, he won't allow it to distract him.
"I just have to stay humble," he said. "I'm still so young. I'm just thanking God for the position he's put me in."
Brossette doesn't plan to hurry through the recruiting process. With nearly two years remaining until his signing day, his options are likely to grow, and he doesn't want to put limitations on them.
"The decision I'm going to make is just wherever I feel the most comfortable, and it will be a good academic school," he said. "I haven't really looked at schools yet. I'm just focused on my off-season, trying to get better at all the little things."
This spring and summer, Brossette would like to attend camps at Alabama, Florida and LSU. He said he might head out to California to participate in B2G's Elite Camp in Los Angeles, which he could combine with an unofficial visit to UCLA.
