Watch List RB names a top two
By Kipp Adams
ATLANTA -- After rushing for 1,768 yards and 24 touchdowns as a junior, ESPN Watch List running back Racean Thomas (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) had little need to come out for Saturday's Nike SPARQ Combine. His recruitment has already taken off, with offers from programs such as Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, LSU and USC. With less than favorable conditions, Thomas still came out to compete with over 1,700 other recruits.
"I think I did pretty good for this being a first event and it being so cold," Thomas said. "I could have done better on my forty. That kind of bummed me a bit but the weather likely affected it a little."
At the moment, Thomas admitted two programs are standing out from the rest.
"Georgia and Auburn are sticking out to me right now," Thomas said. "Auburn is so young and their players are developing. I think they are going to have a great season this year. The coaches are great and I get a great home feeling when I go up there. Coach [Rodney] Garner and Coach [Rhett] Lashlee are cool guys that treat me like a son. I had a great time when I visited Georgia and Coach Bryan McClendon helps me while we watch film. I want to see him again and see if I get that same feeling there that I get at Auburn."
Thomas hopes to visit Georgia again soon, but he also would like to take a visit to a prominent program on the West Coast if they were to extend a scholarship.
"An offer from Oregon would be outstanding," Thomas said. "I would really like to visit them then."
