Peach State RB Chubb adds a big offer
By Greg Ostendorf
2014 Watch List running back Nick Chubb continues to pile up scholarship offers.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- As a junior at Cedartown (Ga.) High School, Nick Chubb rushed for over 2,700 yards and 38 touchdowns, so it should come as no surprise that he’s seen a spike in interest from BCS programs.
The ESPN Watch List running back has picked up offers from Florida, Georgia and Georgia Tech over the last month, and the good news continued on Saturday.
Chubb received an Alabama offer directly from head coach Nick Saban.
“He said, ‘we’re interested in you, we want you to be here,’ and he gave me a scholarship,” Chubb said. “I was speechless. I don’t even remember if I said thank you or not.”
Currently, the Crimson Tide have two running backs committed, one already signed and hopes of adding another in the 2013 class. They also have a commitment for 2014. However, the potential depth concerns has no effect on Chubb.
“That’s not an issue,” he said. “Coach talked about how that will make me a better running back. As a freshman, it may not be running back but maybe special teams. I don’t mind. I just want to play.”
Chubb was in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Saturday for the Tide’s first junior day of the year. He and the other elite 2014 prospects in town met with the coaching staff and toured the campus.
“It went good,” Chubb said. “I talked to Bobby Williams, and I met the running backs coach for the first time. He seemed like he knew what he was talking about, dealing with running backs. We went around the campus. We went to the weight room, the dining room, the dorm. We just checked everything out. I had a good time.”
Before Saturday, Chubb had been to junior days at both Georgia and Georgia Tech. He plans to visit Ohio State on Feb. 10. He says he has no favorites at this point.
