Bama's junior day impresses LB Evans
By Greg Ostendorf
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama keeps trending upward for ESPN Watch List linebacker Rashaan Evans, an Auburn legacy. The in-state star visited Tuscaloosa on Saturday for the Crimson Tide’s first junior day and came away impressed.
“It went pretty good,” Evans said. “They gave us a tour of the facilities and the new weight room they’re about to put in. It’s huge. It’s almost double from what they had originally had, so it’s going to be huge. And it’s right across from the indoor facility.”
Evans, who already has an Alabama offer, didn’t get a chance to speak with head coach Nick Saban. Instead, he spent most of his time with UA defensive coordinator Kirby Smart.
“Me and Kirby are real cool. I like Kirby,” Evans said. “All of the linebackers went to a meeting room, and he just showed us clips of the last linebackers that came through Alabama -- the position they played, what they did, stuff like that.”
Evans, who is 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, said he would probably play the Jack linebacker position for the Tide if he chose to go to school there. On his visit, he saw fellow in-state linebackers Shaun Dion Hamilton and Tre Williams as we all as Alabama commitment Bo Scarbrough.
Next weekend, Evans plans to visit Clemson for its junior day.
As of now, he’s still open with recruiting but said he’s pretty high on the Tide after Saturday.
