Introducing the class: Jonathan Cook
By Greg Ostendorf
Jonathan Cook is excited to get his college career started at Alabama.
Editor's note: This is a series introducing Alabama's 2013 recruiting class that will run through signing day.
TUSCALOOSA -- Jonathan Cook committed to Nebraska over the summer, but when Alabama offered a scholarship after the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game, it didn't take long for the in-state standout to flip to the Crimson Tide. It was the offer he had wanted from the start. Cook is the second true cornerback to join the class with ESPN 300 athlete Anthony Averett expected to start out there as well. Cook will take his official visit to UA this weekend.
Q: What made you commit to Alabama?
A: It’s a school that I’ve wanted to go to since I was little, watching them. There’s no better town than Tuscaloosa. I’ve been to a game, and the atmosphere is great and everything. There’s no place I’d rather be than Tuscaloosa. That’s where I want to be.
Q: What’s life been like since your commitment?
A: It’s been great. A lot of people have been talking to me, saying congratulations.
Q: When did you first meet Coach Saban? What was that like?
A: My first time meeting was when I went to Alabama’s camp -- my junior year. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It was good. He was just telling me they want me to be at Alabama and stuff like that.
Q: What’s your favorite Alabama memory to this point?
A: The LSU game I went to when they lost. Even though they lost, the stadium was so packed out. I have fun at every game I go to, but that game was so loud. It was a big game, and that was my first big game.
Q: What’s your goal when you get to Alabama?
A: Just to get on the field, play and try to be the best cornerback at Alabama ever.
Q: Do you have a favorite play or memory from high school?
A: Winning the championship with the team again. It was just great to go back and win two times. I enjoyed my whole high school career. I got two rings. I enjoyed it.
