TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- ESPN Watch List defensive end Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) has already been to Florida State, Georgia and Georgia Tech this fall, but he says his trip to Alabama over the weekend was his favorite visit of the season.
“They rolled out the red carpet,” Carter said. “I felt like they actually wanted me on this visit. When I came, people knew my name. When we were going up to eat, they pulled me aside and had me go in and talk to Coach [Nick] Saban before the game. It was just nice. Everything was tailored to me, basically.”
Although Carter didn’t get the scholarship offer he was hoping for, he did receive some good news from the Crimson Tide head coach.
“[Saban] told me that he hadn’t had a chance to watch my film personally, but Coach [Kirby] Smart had, and based on what Coach Smart says, I’ll probably get an offer by the end of the season,” Carter said.
The Georgia native already has more than 10 offers, but Alabama is one he’s still holding out for. At 6-foot-6, 230 pounds, he says the UA coaching staff likes him as a potential Jack linebacker in their defense.
As for the Tide’s game on Saturday, Carter was surprised with the outcome but still came away impressed with the fans and the atmosphere.
“It was great,” he said. “I went to the LSU game last year. It was an electric atmosphere, and it was basically the same this year. I wasn’t expecting to be as upbeat, but it was. Even though they lost, they still had fans sitting in the stands at the end of the game, cheering them off the field.”
One of Carter's high school teammates, junior offensive lineman Trent Jenkins, also visited Tuscaloosa on Saturday. Norcross star running back Alvin Kamara didn’t make the trip, but he sent a text message to Carter on Sunday to see what he thought of Alabama.
With the season winding down, Carter is trying to decide where to take his last visit in two weeks. He might return to UA for the Auburn game, but he’s also considering Georgia Tech at Georgia and Florida at Florida State.
