Jenks, Ok., cornerback Steven Parker already has scholarship offers from in-state powers Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, but when the defending national champions said they would offer him, it caught the 2014 prospect’s attention.
Earlier this week, Parker received half of a dozen letters from the University of Alabama, and the final one said they planned to officially offer him a scholarship next year.
“They told me that they classify me as one of the top 2014 prospects, and they were just saying they can’t really offer me until Aug. 1 next year.,” Parker said. "They were just kind of explaining some stuff.”
“It made me feel great. I’m shocked to get it. I know they’re a championship ball club. I know they win lots of championships, and Coach [Nick] Saban is a pretty good coach.”
Parker hasn’t talked to the UA coaching staff yet but said he plans to reach out to them as soon as he gets a chance.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound defensive back is also receiving interest from Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina State and Notre Dame. He’s visited both in-state schools but wants to make a trip out of state soon.
“My plan is go see an Alabama game or a Nebraska game pretty soon, just go out of state and see one of those games somewhere,” Parker said.
The junior wants to try and visit all of the interested schools so he can get a feel for how comfortable he is on each campus as that might end up being the deciding factor.
