The University of Alabama will hold its annual spring game on Saturday, and recruits from all over the country are expected to attend. TideNation brings you a list of five recruits to keep an eye on over the weekend.
OL Brandon Kublanow - Marietta, Ga.
There have been reports Kublanow will attend Clemson’s spring game, but his teammate, Alabama running back commitment Tyren Jones, confirmed that the two will be making the trip to Tuscaloosa together for A-Day. If in fact he does make the trip, it would be huge for the Crimson Tide. Kublanow is considered one of the top offensive lineman in the state of Georgia for 2013, and he projects to play center at the next level, a position of need for Alabama. Recently, he listed Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Vanderbilt as early favorites. But his relationship with Jones could be an advantage for the Tide when it comes time to make a decision.
WR Robert Foster - Monaco, Pa.
The headline recruit visiting Alabama this weekend is Foster, an ESPN 150 Watch List wide receiver and Under Armour All-American. The Pennsylvania native plans to come down on Friday and spend the weekend in Tuscaloosa. At 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, he’s a big target and has the chance to be one of the top receivers in the country for 2013. Although UA landed a very impressive crop of receivers in last year’s recruiting class, the Crimson Tide still have a legitimate shot at Foster, who may be their top target at the position. He recently visited Ohio State for the Buckeyes spring game and plans to announce his decision at the Under Armour AA Game next January.
RB Alvin Kamara - Norcross, Ga.
Nobody is certain as to where Kamara will be going this weekend. It’s either Alabama or Georgia, but he hasn’t come out and said which spring game he will attend. The school that gets him on campus this weekend could very well be the favorite for his services. Kamara spent nearly a full week in Tuscaloosa two weeks ago, watching the Crimson Tide’s practice, sitting through meetings and getting to know the coaching staff. Although Alabama already has two commitments at the position, it still views Kamara as a priority in the 2013 class because of his speed and versatility. Keep an eye out for a possible commitment if Kamara ultimately ends up back at UA for A-Day.
CB Maurice Smith - Sugar Land, Texas
Alabama has a big need for cornerbacks in 2013, and Smith fits the bill. The ESPN 150 Watch List cornerback from Texas will make his first trip to Tuscaloosa this weekend to take in the Crimson Tide’s spring game. Smith recently picked up an offer from Texas, and the Longhorns may be the team to beat to land his signature, but the 5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect is very high Alabama and its coach Nick Saban. A good visit this weekend could put the Tide right up there with Texas. Regardless of how well it goes, Smith is in no hurry to make a decision. He plans to wait until after his senior year before he decides where he’s going to school.
ATH Anthony Averett - Woodbury, N.J.
The player making the longest trip for Saturday’s spring game may be Averett, who is flying down from Woodbury, N.J. There’s also a possibility that he leaves Tuscaloosa committed to the Crimson Tide. Averett has over a dozen offers but says Alabama is the school that stands out the most right now in recruiting. He’s listed as an athlete, but the 6-foot, 170-pound prospect prefers to play cornerback at the next level, and the chance to play for Saban, arguably the best at coaching defensive backs in college football, is very enticing. This is the only visit Averett plans to make this spring, and he could come to a decision early if all goes well.
