The Opening and Elite 11 served as a chance for ESPN 300 quarterback David Cornwell (Norman, Okla./North) to show why he was a top target -- and also why he can be the next big thing at quarterback for Alabama.

It also gave Cornwell, the nation’s No. 2-ranked pocket-passer, a chance to put on his recruiting hat. Cornwell committed to Alabama on June 14, and the time spent in Oregon at The Opening allowed him to not only watch other athletes but also try his recruiting pitches on uncommitted players.

One athlete, in particular, happens to have Alabama very high on his list.
