The state of Alabama is loaded in 2014, and the Crimson Tide are trying to reap the benefits. After picking up a commitment from running back Bo Scarbrough on Friday night, Alabama hosted top in-state cornerback Marlon Humphrey (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) for Saturday’s Western Kentucky game.
“It went good,” Humphrey said. “I talked to Coach [Nick] Saban a little bit. We just talked about football this year, my team and who we play, stuff like that. It was a good visit.”
Although it was against a lesser opponent, the Hoover junior was impressed with how the Tide played and the atmosphere at the game.
“It was a pretty good game,” Humphrey said. “A shutout is always good. The defense played pretty well. Since Dee [Milliner] wasn’t playing because he was hurt, I just watched the entire secondary.”
Scarbrough, the Tide’s newest commitment, was also on hand for the game, and he wasn’t shy about trying to convince Humphrey to join him at UA.
“He was talking about how he committed, and how committing is a good thing,” Humphrey said. “I guess you could say he was trying to get me to come to Alabama.”
The two square off in two weeks at Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa. Humphrey is looking forward to the game and knows it will be a tough test for Hoover, but he’s just hoping the Jaguars try to throw the ball on him.
“I’m pretty excited for that,” he said. “I know they have a great team with a real good run game. Hopefully, they’ll throw the ball a little bit. There will be two top recruits on the field, so it should be good.”
Humphrey has already started setting up his visits to other schools. He plans to visit Mississippi State in two weeks for the South Alabama game. He’ll be in Baton Rouge when LSU hosts Alabama, and he’s also trying to get to Florida State for a game.
The Alabama native still expects to be in Tuscaloosa a good bit this fall.
“Whenever I’m not going somewhere else, I’ll probably be at the Alabama home games,” Humphrey said.
