University of Alabama coaches Nick Saban and Kirby Smart got a first-hand look at 2013 offensive lineman Brandon Kublanow at his high school in Marietta, Ga., on Tuesday.
The two coaches stopped by Walton High to shake hands and get to know one of the state’s most sought after linemen. Kublanow, a 6-foot-3, 290-pound bulldozer has caught the eye of coaches after an impressive summer before his junior year. He said the Tide have a “great program” and a “really strong foundation.”
“It’s big-time football,” he said.
Kublanow said his visit with Saban and Smart was short, but impressive.
“It went pretty well,” he said. “(Saban is) not allowed to talk much but he just wanted to come say hi and let me know they're really interested in me ... They want me to come visit in a couple of weeks.”
Kublanow said he would take an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa soon. He is also considering Georgia, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Duke, Tennessee, Auburn, Miami, Florida, Purdue, Oklahoma State, South Carolina and Clemson,
Currently, he said he has no favorites.
“I'm just sitting back, making sure I make the right decision,” he said. “I think I’m going to end up committing some time over the summer or next season. That gives me enough time to check up on other schools. I want to be able to focus on my senior year.”
Kublanow said he will “look at academics first” and then what kind of program and tradition a school has.
