The quarterback play in the SEC this season, especially at the top, has been terrific.

In fact, it's a big reason the defensive numbers are up as much as they are. The ironic thing is that it wasn't too long ago that the running joke about the SEC was that the next time a quarterback in the league completed a pass over 20 yards would be the first time.

Well, not anymore.

Three of the top six quarterbacks in the country in terms of passing efficiency play in the SEC. Georgia's Aaron Murray is fourth, Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel fifth and LSU's Zach Mettenberger sixth.

Murray has thrown eight touchdown passes and only one interception in the Bulldogs' two wins over top 10 foes -- LSU and South Carolina. Mettenberger has 13 touchdown passes and only one interception this season. He threw for 372 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions last week in the 44-41 loss at Georgia. Manziel leads the SEC in total offense with an average of 360.6 yards per game. He's passed for 14 touchdowns and run for three more.

There's also Alabama's AJ McCarron, who has a couple of national championship rings and was brilliant in the 49-42 win over Texas A&M last month with four touchdown passes. Don't forget about Missouri's James Franklin, either. He's healthy and putting up big numbers. Franklin is third in the SEC in total offense behind Manziel and Murray and has accounted for 11 touchdowns in four games -- nine passing and two rushing.

What we're asking of you is to tell us which SEC quarterback is playing the best right now. So go vote in our SportsNation poll, and we'll unveil the results in a few days.
