Alabama offers 2013 QB Mitch

3/13/2012

Recruiting continues to heat up for Raleigh, N.C., quarterback Connor Mitch.

Mitch, who has received offers from LSU, Tennessee and West Virginia in recent weeks, got a new offer from the University of Alabama on Tuesday. It was an offer that came directly from Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban.

“I was very excited to get an offer from a school like that. It’s just awesome,” Mitch said. “They put players in the NFL, and that’s what you look for. Coach Saban, you know he’s going to stay there. There’s no reason to leave that program to go somewhere else, so the coaching stability is good. They produce national championships, and it’s top-notch down there.”

Mitch has become familiar with Alabama and its program after visiting Tuscaloosa for the LSU game last fall and again in January for the Tide’s first junior day. On his most recent trip, he got a chance to tour the campus and the facilities at UA.

“I had a great time,” Mitch said. “The campus is unbelievable. Obviously, the football facilities are at the top in the nation. I got to meet the new offensive coordinator, Coach (Doug) Nussmeier, and I just had a great time. I enjoyed it.”

When the 6-foot-3 quarterback sat down with Nussmeier, he was told the offense should be very similar to what former offensive coordinator Jim McElwain ran during his stint with Alabama.

“They said it’s pretty much the same thing, a pro style that helps a quarterback get ready for the next level,” Mitch said.

Mitch now has 12 offers after the recent flurry of activity in recruiting, and he thinks that Auburn, Florida and South Carolina may be next to pull the trigger. He’s scheduled to make a return trip to Tuscaloosa on April 14, his birthday, for Alabama’s spring game.
