Bama extends offer to 2015 TE at camp

6/3/2013

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- It’s easy to be awestruck when sitting down with Nick Saban, arguably the top coach in college football. But when the Alabama head coach offers you a scholarship, it should be a moment you remember, not one you forget.

That wasn’t the case for 2015 prospect Will Gragg (Pine Bluff, Ark./Pine Bluff).

The 6-foot-4, 247-pound tight end prospect camped at Alabama on Monday. When he finished the first session, he and his family met with Saban in his office where he received a scholarship offer from the Crimson Tide. It didn’t even register with Gragg. He had to call his recruiting coordinator on the way home to confirm it.

“I was just in a state of shock,” he said. “It’s the best team in the country offering you a scholarship. I don’t know. It’s just crazy.”

Gragg did pay close attention to the rest of his conversation with Saban.

“We were just talking about different aspects of just the game and not only football, but life,” he said. “[Saban] was just telling us how he wants to translate his players into men aside from football. The first step in building a winning program is having good men that you can trust.

“He was telling us how they were second in the SEC academically behind Vanderbilt for graduation rate. Then he was talking how they had 13 seniors, and all 13 of them either got drafted or picked up by NFL teams.”

The Alabama offer is No. 3 for Gragg, who picked up an offer from Ole Miss on Saturday and was first offered by Arkansas a year ago. His brother, Chris Gragg, was a standout tight end for the Razorbacks.

At the Tide’s camp, the younger Gragg spent the majority of his time working with UA tight ends coach Bobby Williams.

“It went well,” he said. “It was like working with pro coaches, NFL-type coaches. I was with Coach Williams, the tight ends coach, and he was just showing us different techniques and how to improve our game. Then we did some 7-on-7 and some individual position work.”

Gragg plans to camp at Arkansas next Monday.
