TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- It wasn’t your typical senior year for Darius Paige. The 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive lineman transferred high schools and then had to get acclimated to a new environment and learn a whole new defense. The one thing that stayed constant throughout the transition was his commitment to Alabama. He committed to the Tide in May and never looked back. Last weekend, Paige took his official visit to Tuscaloosa.
Q: What made you commit to Alabama?
A: I felt like Alabama would help me succeed in the real world and get me ready for the real world. And they’re a winning program.
Q: What’s life been like since your commitment?
A: It’s been tough. People have been telling me I need to decommit and all that -- fans and coaches.
Q: When did you first meet Coach Saban? What was that like?
A: It was at junior day. I was scared. I read about him a lot. I watch all of the Alabama games, so I was a little nervous and scared.
Q: What’s your favorite Alabama memory to this point?
A: Going to the Auburn game. I just had a lot of fun that weekend.
Q: What’s your goal when you get to Alabama?
A: I really haven’t thought about that yet.
Q: Do you have a favorite play or memory from high school?
A: It was when I had a kick return. It was my fourth game when I was at (Pensacola, Fla.) Washington. I was waiting to block, and I saw the ball was coming short. My eyes got real big and opened up real wide. Next thing, I saw the ball landed in my hands, and I took off running with it. I ran for about 30 or 40 yards.
