2013 LB Jones has family ties to Tide

His dad went to Alabama. Oldest brother, Barrett, is an All-American with the Tide and fellow brother Harrison plays TE. So Walker Jones is headed to Bama too, right?

Dave Hooker has the story on the highly coveted 2013 prospect from Tennessee, who is also considering the Vols.
The University of Alabama went into Bud Walton Arena staring down a hungry Arkansas team that had lost just one home game all season. But the hostile environment galvanized the Tide as they went on to beat the Razorbacks, 79-68.

The win lifts Alabama to 18-9 overall and 7-6 in the SEC.

Three keys: Alabama at Arkansas

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- University of Alabama coach Anthony Grant confirmed Tuesday that previously suspended power forward JaMychal Green will not play against Arkansas on Thursday. Grant said he will reevaluate his status and would not say whether he would play against Mississippi State at home on Saturday.

Green, the team’s leader in points per game, was reinstated for practice on Monday.

As for Tony Mitchell, who was suspended for the remainder of the season on Monday, Grant said he was unsure whether his second-leading scorer would come back for his senior season in 2013.

Recruiting leapt into high gear for Camion Patrick.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound receiver from Lenoir City (Tenn.) High School picked up three scholarship offers on Thursday, from Alabama, Arkansas and Ole Miss.

"I thought it was pretty exciting to get three offers back to back,” Patrick told ESPN.

Hill's coach talks Tide commitment

If not for Grant Hill's family, Hunstville High coach Scott Sharp may have been the happiest man in Alabama when his 6-foot-5, 320-pound offensive lineman committed to the Crimson Tide on Monday.

2013 OL Hill commits to Bama

HUNTSVILLE - The University of Alabama landed its second commitment in as many days when Huntsville High School offensive lineman Grant Hill gave a verbal pledge to Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban.

“That’s where I belong,” Hill said. “I can see myself going to Alabama. I feel like they will develop me better than any other school as both a person and a football player. I feel like the coaches are the best fit for me."

Hill visited Tuscaloosa on Saturday for Alabama’s junior day over the weekend where he spent the majority of the day with UA offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland.

Tide host basketball visitor

The Alabama football team hosted a large group of prospects for the Crimson Tide’s junior day on Feb. 18, but it was the UA basketball team that hosted the lone official visitor of the weekend, DeVon Walker.

Walker, a 6-foot-6, 188-pound wing player from Winter Haven, Fla., made the trip to Tuscaloosa and watched as Alabama defeated Tennessee, 62-50, in Coleman Coliseum.

“The visit went really well,” Walker said. “I enjoyed it. The atmosphere, the fans are die-hard fans at Alabama. I love the players I was with. I love the coaching staff. All in all, it was just a great visit.

2013 OL Kublanow might follow Jones

When Marietta Ga., running back Tyren Jones committed to the University of Alabama on Tuesday, one of the first calls he made, after informing the Tide staff of his decision, was to his teammate, Brandon Kublanow.

“I just talked to him,” Kublanow said. “He was pretty excited about it. That’s where he wants to go now, and he’s going to try and get me to go there. He’s just real excited about being committed there.”

Kublanow, a top offensive lineman from the Peach State, listed Alabama along with Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Vanderbilt as early favorites. He says his teammate’s commitment will be a factor in his decision.

Georgia RB Jones commits to Alabama

The University of Alabama landed its eighth commitment for 2013 when Marietta, Ga., running back Tyren Jones chose the Crimson Tide on Tuesday night. Jones visited Tuscaloosa for the Tide’s junior day over the weekend and picked up an offer.

"I called Kirby Smart, my recruiting coach, and he was all excited, and then he put me on the phone with the running backs coach and Nick Saban," Jones said. "They all told me they think I made a great decision, and they asked me to give them a big Roll Tide.

"I already had a top five, but when I visited there, I just felt that vibe. I felt comfortable with everyone there, and I feel like they would help me grow as a man."

Alabama commit picking up interest

Defensive back Artie Burns (Miami/Northwestern) committed to the University of Alabama in December, but that hasn’t stopped the in-state schools, in particular Florida State and Miami, from recruiting him.

Burns remains solid to the Crimson Tide but admitted that he’s still looking at other schools. He’s taken two visits to Miami and one to Florida State since his commitment. Florida, USC and West Virginia have also offered him scholarships.

The ESPNU 150 Watch List member has been staying in contact with the UA coaching staff, calling assistant coach Jeff Stoutland, his main recruiter, once a week.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Suspended University of Alabama forward JaMychal Green was reinstated and returned to practice today, according to a team spokesman. Alabama also announced that junior Tony Mitchell will remain suspended for the remainder of the 2011-12 season.

Green, the team's leading scorer and and second leading rebounder, was suspended indefinitely on Jan. 11, just hours before tipoff at LSU. He is not expected to play in either of Alabama's games this week.

It was Green's third suspension since joining the Tide in 2008. Alabama coach Anthony Grant on a teleconference earlier in the day that both Green and Mitchell would be unavailable for Thursday's game at Arkansas.

Green averaged 14.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game prior to his suspension. Green earned first team all-SEC honors his junior year while scoring 15.5 points with 7.4 rebounds per game.

Mitchell was the team leader in rebounds before his suspension on Feb. 7. He was second in scoring at 13.1 points per game.
