Wright was not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and general manager Sandy Alderson has "a little bit of concern" about the health issue.
Wright has a chronic condition with spinal stenosis in his lower back. Alderson said he could not speculate if the two issues are connected.
"We'll just have to see what happens over the next 24 hours," Alderson said.
Asked what the precise issue is with Wright, the GM added: "It's bothering him. I don't want to get into it at this point, until we have more concrete information."
Manager Terry Collins said he hopes Wright returns to the lineup for ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, when the Mets face Clayton Kershaw in the series finale.
