Thoughts on Golson's future
By Vince Verhei
Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback Everett Golson, thrown off the football team for "poor academic judgment," has said that he will back on the roster next spring. But is that really a foregone conclusion?Al Lesar of the South Bend Tribune doesn't think so. After questioning Golson's decision to speak at all, and saying that Golson should be spending less time as an athlete and more time as a student, Lesar asks if the Irish players will accept their quarterback back into the fold.
"How will this impact Golson?" Lesar writes. "Will his teammates view him as the same sort of leader they thought he was before the poor judgment? Will this sour him toward the big-picture concepts, objectives and mission of the university or make him even more committed?
"It's not about Golson missing this season. It's who he is when he returns, as he and [coach Brian Kelly] have projected, in January."
